Casual Weekends...

Happy weekend!! I know there are folks out there who don't care about weekends because either they work straight through them and have other days off throughout the week, or their are people who work for themselves, so they're always working. Not the case for me. I have a 9-5 (well, really a 7:30-4pm), and it's Monday - Friday. I can't stress enough how much I cherish weekends.

I do as little as I want, or as much as I can squeeze in (usually the latter). I spend time at home, in my yard, with my family, eating good food, having a drank, just lounging. You know. Whatever.

Anyhoo, on to the OOTD. I wore this on Mother's Day. Oh Lawd! Where are my manners?! Even though I'm a week late, I hope that you all enjoyed Mother's Day. No matter if you're a mother, or if you know a mother, I hope you had a lovely day. Now, on to the OOTD.

I'm all about this dress! It's made from jersey fabric, and I can't even tell you how comfy it is. It's fairly shapeless, and I purchased it a size too big (on purpose) to achieve this look. My normal style is casual and cool.  I like to throw on an outfit and go. No shapers, no Spanx, no fuss.

I can't remember if I have shown my cute little boat shoes on the blog before. I've had them for quite a few years. They were originally purchased for my daughter, but she didn't like them. I was actually happy that she didn't because that meant they were ALL MINE! Score!

I recently read a blog post that listed Coach purses/bags as a terrible trend that needed to never come back again. I'm not sure how many feel that way, and I guess I'm hard pressed to say that I care. I love my bag(s) and I will rock them until the wheels fall off. Being that I have been buying and wearing them since I was a teenager, it's not a trend for me. My mother and aunts all wore Coach, and as a kid I can remember wanting all of their bags. So for me, it's COACH TILL THE WORLD BLOW UP!!! (not everyone will get that gang reference, and I'm cool with that, Ha!)

Until next time...

Weekend Girl...

Happy Football Sunday y'all! At least that's what's going on in my house. I hope everyone's weekend has been going well.

Friday night, I attended a bonfire gathering to celebrate my sis in-laws birthday. It was my first one, and I really had a good time. Saturday afternoon, hubby, myself and the kiddos went to a Hip-hop Festival. There were graffiti artists, break dancing and freestyle battles. We missed the free-styling, but I enjoyed what we were able to catch. Saturday evening, I went with hubby to a company dinner to celebrate their 10th anniversary… which brings me to the OOTD.

I snagged this cute & colorful dress from Target on clearance for $9.98!! It would have been a shame NOT to get it. I think it's perfect for work, or a nice dinner. The fall colors are what drew me to it. You can't go wring with oranges, browns and blues for Fall. The only negative (if you can call it that) is, I wish I had picked up a smaller size. I had to put on the denim blazer because the dress is pinned in the back.

Out of habit, I grabbed an XXL and went to the dressing room, but was pleasantly surprised when that didn't work. Because I didn't have much time, I left the dressing room, picked up the XL and was on my way. If I had tried it on in the store, I would have gotten the L. I probably should have tried it on at home before it was time for me to get ready :/ It's a good problem to have, but in a way it's weird not knowing your size. I digress.

Until next time…

I can't say enough how much I'm enjoying my hair!! My second twist out & I love the messiness of it!

Weekend Girl...

Hope you guys enjoyed your weekend, because it's back to the 9 to 5 tomorrow! I had a nice weekend. As usual, lots of family time. Just hanging with the kiddos and the hubby trying to enjoy what's left of the summer.

Went to catch the "Sparkle" movie today. I thought it was pretty good. The movie deviated from some of the story lines that I thought were pretty important to the original, but that didn't take away my feeling that it was a good movie. As the movie went on, I made myself forget that it was a remake, and took the movie for what it was. The music was jumpin, and Mike Epps gave a great performance.

On to the OOTD. I wore this today to the movies. Simple. Comfy. Cute. Now that I look at the pics, I figure the belt could have been left out or swapped for a skinny one, but hey… hindsight, right?

My hair is still a work in progress. I'm working on transitioning to natural, and it's hard work. *sigh*

Until next time…

These shoes are so comfy!! Love them!

Celebrity Inspiration...

I hope your weekend has been going a fabulous as mine. Hubby and I have been kickin it all weekend as if we've had something in particular to celebrate. My weekends are never this packed. Thursday, we went to a Dave Chappelle comedy show. Friday, we went to a club to hear some live music. And Saturday, we went out for a nice dinner at an AWESOME restaurant. Today, I'm on chill mode. I will be taking my Kinky Twists down and relaxing.

Saturday I wore a super cute dress that I picked up on clearance a few months ago from Torrid. When I saw it, I immediately thought of this dress that Alicia Keys wore a while ago. Isn't she FAB?!

The dress was yet another purchase that I made in a size 16 with the expectation of being able to fit it comfortably sooner rather than later. I'm there y'all(personal victory)!! I am completely in love with this dress!! It's super comfortable. I can't say enough about it! The silhouette that it creates brings out my inner sexy! lol!! (please excuse the lap wrinkles, as it wrinkles easily when I sit)

Until next time…

Weekend Girl...

Just a quick post to say "Heeeeyyyyy!!"

You guys have seen this top and these shorts in previous posts. The last time I wore my Marilyn crop was with a high-waisted maxi skirt. Today I wore a tank underneath with my Calvin Klein shorts.  Let me tell you about this tank that I got from Old Navy!!! This bad boy is SUPER comfy. The material just feels so soft against the skin! I love it, and will be going back for more. I can't get enough of my cute little sandals from Target. I bought the black pair first, then went back for these brown babies a week or so later.

Welp, I'm off to see The Amazing Spider-Man movie. Hope you guys are enjoying your weekend!

Until next time…

Weekend Girl...

Hey peeps! Just a lil post with what I wore on Saturday. Nothing special, just super casual. Ok… there is something special (to me at least). The necklace that I'm wearing is a waist-chain. It's no longer fitting like it used to, and I haven't worn it as such in years... so I'm re-purposing this bad boy as a necklace. ALSO, I've had these shorts in my closet since my son was born over 7 years ago. They were in a bag that I was going to donate to the Goodwill. Since I've lost a few, I decided to pull them out. THEY FIT!! Yay me!! Other than those two things, the outfit is nothing special. =D

Side note: I'm not going to turn this blog into a weight loss blog or anything, but my little corner of the blogesphere is a representation of things that are going on with me. My health is huge for me right now, and I'm not even sure why. Something just clicked in me recently, and good things are coming out of it. For example, my blood pressure was 122/80, and has come down to 120/79!! I hope you all stick with me while I'm on this path of discovering a new me.

Enjoy your Sunday!

Until next time…

Two for one...

For my 4th installment of the Big Fat Summer Challenge (click the link for the full challenge info) I wanted to "Wear a cropped top". I was nervous about this one, until I became inspired by Kim over at Naturally Fashionable. The idea to wear a high waisted bottom with the cropped top, was genius if you ask me! It made me much more comfortable with the whole concept. Thanks Kim!! =D This bottom also qualifies as my entry for #5, because its a maxi skirt. Done and done. Technically, I could make this a 6th entry as well because the skirt is high-waisted, but I won't because I have something else in mind for that. Stay tuned ;)

Now, in the spirit of being totally honest, I must say that I wasn't really feeling this outfit as a whole. The top and skirt came together nicely, but in my haste to wear my new shoes (don't judge me), I think I wore them prematurely with this outfit. I promised myself to have more control and do better next time.

Until next time...

Weekend Girl...

It's the weekend baaaaaaaabyyyyyyy!!! I love weekends. They're perfect because you get to sleep in, cook breakfast(sometimes), go shopping, hang around... just whatever tickles your fancy. Enjoy.

I wore this outfit yesterday to hang out with some friends & family. It was the perfect evening for grilled kabobs and drinks on the deck. You may be getting a little tired of my jean jacket, but I'm not! LOL! I love this thing. I'm currently on the hunt for a new one, or a jean vest. I guarantee, you will be sick of those two once I have them in my possession **insert evil laugh**. Moving on... there are a few things that I would like to point out.

1. New hair!!! I went yesterday and sat in a chair for 6 hours and got my hair twisted (kinky twists). I like them a lot! They'll just take some getting used to.

2. My white cropped pants (from Marshalls) are a size 16! When I bought them, they were a little tight. I had hopes that they would eventually fit. I tried them on yesterday, and BOOM!! They fit perfectly. I have to give credit to the fact that I haven't eaten ANYTHING sweet in 3 weeks, and I haven't had one drop of pop for that same amount of time. I've also been exercising. I'm taking it week by week y'all.

3. Last but not least, the star of the show... My shoes!! I went into Target and these nautical babies just reached for me. From afar, I didn't know what the price was, but I knew they would be coming with me. I got them in my hands, and to my surprise they were marked clearance at $7.48!! These shoes are so cute and comfy.

Until next time...

PS, I promise that my white tank isn't dingy. The coral tank underneath is causing the "off-white" look.

Same Colors, Different Day...

Happy Easter & good afternoon!!

As usual, I hope you guys had a great weekend. Weekends go by so fast, but usually they are refreshing.

In my last post, I wore a colorful striped skirt from Old Navy. This post I'm wearing a cutie pa-tootie colorful striped dress from Target. When I saw this dress in the store, I briefly checked it out, but didn't try it on. I honestly didn't think it would look cute on, but I loved the colors. The next few days, I saw one of my favorite blogger buddies wearing this bad boy. This post over at Curves and Confidence had me convinced that I loved the dress and wanted one for myself.

When I bought the dress, I had no idea what shoes I would wear with it. Two weeks ago, I picked up a pair of Air Force 1s and my mind immediately went to wearing them with this dress. I know a lot of my lovely readers don't wear gymshoes/sneakers, but I love them. I incorporate them into my wardrobe often, and I think they worked well here.

Until next time...

Weekend Girl...

Hey peeps!! This weekend has been one of the nicest weekends weather wise that we've had in a while her in Minnesota. 61 degrees early in March is a heat-wave here!! LOL! The grass leaves something to be desired, but I'm grateful all the same. =D

I felt so comfy and cute in my Old Navy sweater, and skinnies. I purchased the sweater on clearance for $7.47!! It's just the right thickness for this type of weather. I didn't need a jacket at all. Just as I'm doing this post, I realized that next Saturday is St. Patrick's Day! I guess the green was totally appropriate, although unintentional.

Since I've been running around and enjoying the lovely days and evenings, I didn't have the chance to roll my hair. The tam that I'm wearing is perfect for that. I have a pink one that I rock as well. They will become a staple for when those "bad hair days" come up.

Until next time...

Weekend Girl...

Hope everyones weekend has been going great! I don't have to work tomorrow, but shout out to everyone who does. I love three day weekends! I've literally been in my pj's for the majority of the weekend. I only left the house for a few hours Saturday evening. I decided to dress my brown pencil skirt down by throwing on a tee and my moccasins. I really can't express enough how much I love these shoes! They are my babies. So comfy, and so stylish. They add a little something to every outfit that I wear them with. I see people stare at them all the time. It's so funny to watch peoples reactions when they look at me, then look down at my shoes. Until next time...
