About Me

Hi! I'm Shanticka. My blog is about any and everything that I want it to be. Me, my family, work, personal style, friends, etc. Thanks for stopping by. I hope you enjoy getting to know me. Live, in living color.

One skirt, two ways...

It is incredibly windy outside today. Looks like the weather is turning in Minnesota. Ugh! Anyways, I love the skirt that I'm wearing today. It's a dress and two skirts in one! See here for the previous look. I got it from a cute boutique, Stella Blu. I love that place. They always have something that I like. When I got to work, I looked at myself and thought that I really could have used a pop of color. Oh well. Black and white will have to do. Overall, I like the look. The pics don't give the full affect of the skirt because I was busy trying to keep it from flying all over the place due to the wind. Not trying to have all of my business in the streets! lol! Until next time...

Windows to the soul...

I've never been a person who wears make-up. And by make-up, I mean things like foundation, blush, eyeshadaw, etc. My everyday lipgloss & occasional mascara don't count. My Grandma always told me to never use make-up on my face. The occasional lipstick is fine(I don't do lipstick), but NEVER use the other stuff. According to her, it ages you and makes you dependent on it. She never did her face unless it was for one of her company Christmas parties. I remember watching/helping her get all fancy. I always wanted to look like her. Anyhoo, I followed her advice all the way to adulthood.

See how fancy she was!! =D
R.I.P Grandma

I decided one day about 5 or 6 months ago to try eyeshadow. I didn't do a horrible job, but it wasn't anything fancy either.

This blog is doing exactly what I wanted it to do. It's making me want to try new things. I now want to try eyeshadow. Color, subtle looks, dramatic looks and anything inbetween. First thing's first though. I have to get comfortable with the idea of spending money on make-up. We'll see how that goes. Another thing is, I wear glasses. I'm not exactly sure how well the eyeshadow will go with them. I'll have to do some research on that. What I do know is, I found it hard to wear mascara with glasses because it's annoying for my eyelashes to brush against them. I only wear it when I go out without my glasses. I'm excited to try this (as you can see, it's the little things). Until next time...

Good can turn to better...

So, I woke up this morning and put some thought into what I wore. Nothing new for me, but this week has been a struggle(see previous post for mini hair rant). This dress is another one item given to me from my girl (again, see previous posts). It is so comfy, and chic. Because of the heavier material and long sleeves, I had been waiting for a cooler day to wear it. Today was the perfect day. 60 something & cloudy/rainy. I was just going to go with gold for the accessory choice, but at the last minute I decided to add a little color into my life. What better than red!?

My favorite thing about my outfit is... you guessed it!! The shoes. I picked these bad boys up at DSW after stalking them in the clearance room & waiting a few months for the price to drop. They are comfortable, and stylish.

I almost never carry small/clutch type purses unless I'm going out with my girls on a Friday night or something, so this little read number is new to me on a weekday. I felt lost today without my MOUND of crap in my big bag. Until next time...

Ok can turn to good...

So, yesterday was a really off day for me. I just didn't get myself together like I should have. Today was a little better. I think my lack of eagerness to get dressed has something to do with the fact that I don't know what to do with my hair. It's been at least 4 months since I've gotten a relaxer and I'm kind of tired of the roller set thing. I'm thinking about getting braids or kinky twists. I'm just sick of my hair in general. Ok, enough of my hair rant. On to what I wore. My favorite thing about this outfit is the shoes (that seems to be a running theme with me). I got them from JC Penny, and they are really comfy. The contrast of suede to leather really caught my eye. I need to find a more badass way of wearing them.

QUICK, before it rains!!

While getting my thoughts together for what I should wear to work today, I just wasn't feelin it. It was definitely a jeans, gymshoes and ponytail kind of day. Nothing special. Just what I wore. I decided to take a few pics just to document and look back at how I look on days that I don't really want to do anything, but I have to. =D We were able to get a few shots before the rain started. My favorite thing about this "outfit" is my shoes. I really dig them. They are my canvas Nikes. They are super comfy. No socks required. Until next time...

Blessed to say...

I am the mother of a 12 (soon to be 13) year old daughter and a 6 year old son.

Raising my son to be a responsible leader, protector and productive member of society is something that I conciously think about every day. I want him to have a sense of self. To have respect for his family and others. To be proud of who he is as a man and what he has to offer to the world. It's hard sometimes not to coddle him. To let him find his own way... Even when I know it's for his own good. And by coddle, I mean give him the answers to all of his problems. Do the little things for him, when I know he can do them for himself. Make him own up to his mistakes, face, and correct them. It's essential to his manhood.

For my daughter, I want her to find her own place in the world. I'm not really into wanting a "mini-me" so much as I want her to be the only her. She doesn't seem to have a problem with this so far. I want her to experiance life through her own eyes. For some reason, it isn't as hard for me to not coddle her. I think it's because in a lot of ways, I automatically expect more from her. Is that wrong? I'm not sure, but I do realize it.

For both of my children, I want the world. They deserve it.

I couldn't resist posting older pics of them. They look like they're having so much fun! Until next time...

What I wore...

I want to start this post off by saying, it's been so much fun coming home from work and taking these pics. My favorite thing about this outfit is everything. I was kind of on the fence about wearing the jean jacket. When I asked Calvin & Tiana about it before I left, they both weren't feeling it. But the more I looked at it, the more I loved it. It was my take on a business suit without being super "business-ey". Looking back at the pictures and all of the compliments that I received during the day, I feel like I made the right choice. I adore my turquoise Coach wedges!! The way they tie up the leg adds a certain sexiness that I love. My only regret is not buying the pink ones at the same time that I got these. Ugh! Until next time...
